How to Cook Naan Bread

Ingredients needed to make Naan Bread:
For the dough:
- 9 oz all purpose flour
- 4 ½ oz milk
- ½ tsp baking powder
- ½ tsp salt
- 2 tsp sugar
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil, plus more for greasing
For the topping:
- 1 tbsp butter, melted
- Poppy or sesame seeds
- Fresh cilantro, finely chopped
Cooking instructions for Naan Bread:
- To make the dough, sprinkle a dash of salt, sugar as well as baking powder into the flour and stir them all together until well combined.
- Pour the milk into a separate bowl and drizzle the oil into it gradually in a steady stream while beating it into the mixture until all of it is incorporated into the milk to form a uniform mixture.
- Pour it into a well at the middle of the dry mixture and work them together with your fingers until they blend and gather together to form a soft, smooth dough.
- Knead the dough on a floured working counter for about 10 minutes, dusting it with some more flour in case it tends to turns sticky.
- Grease a clean bowl with small amount of oil and transfer the dough into it.
- Wrap it up in a moist kitchen towel and set aside in a warm, humid place for about 15 minutes.
- Split the dough onto five balls and set aside.
- Warm up the grill to medium hotness with a baking sheet placed at the top oven rack.
- Flatten out each dough ball with floured rolling pin into a thin teardrop shaped bread and top it up with sesame or poppy seeds as well as chopped cilantro.
- Press them gently with your palm to let them stick to the dough and arrange them on the preheated baking sheet.
- Grill the naans for a couple of minutes or until they are toasted and browns slightly.
- Remove from on oven and drizzle a lashing of melted butter on top of each flat bread.
- Serve hot with spicy Indian curry.
