Ingredients needed to make lasagna:

  • ½ lb ground beef
  • 10 oz (1 package) lasagna sheets
  • 1 lb hot sausages
  • ¾ cup Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1 lb mozzarella cheese, sliced
  • 3 cups low fat cottage cheese
  • 2 whole beaten eggs
  • 6 oz ( 2 cans) tomato paste
  • 2 cans (14.5 oz) whole tomatoes
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 4 tbsp dried parsley
  • 2 tbsp dried basil
  • 1 + ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp olive oil

Cooking instructions for lasagna:

  • Fill a large stock pot with water, stir in ½ tsp salt and bring it to a boil.
  • Meanwhile, heat a skillet over moderate heat and brown the ground beef slightly before stirring in the garlic as well as sausage.
  • Continue to saute the mixture over moderately high heat, stirring frequently, until they brown completely.
  • Skim off most of the fat oozing out of the meat and throw in the tomatoes, along with its paste.
  • Sprinkle 2 tbsp each of dried parsley and basil as well as salt over the mixture and give it a nice stir to mix well.
  • Simmer the sauce for about 45 minutes while you proceed with remaining part of the dish.
  • Toss the cottage cheese, ½ cup grated Parmesan and rest of the dried parsley together with 1 tsp salt until distributed uniformly.
  • Pour in the beaten eggs and stir them well together until properly blended.
  • Add the lasagna sheets into the boiling, salted water, drizzle some olive oil over it and cook until ‘al dente’; drain and set aside.
  • Arrange 4 of the sheets across the bottom of a pre-greased baking dish and top it up with half of the cheese mixture.
  • Arrange the mozzarella slices above the previous layer and smother it with nearly half of the meat sauce.
  • Repeat the layers until all the lasagna sheets are used up and finish it off with a large spoonful of meat sauce.
  • Top it up with lots of Parmesan cheese and bake in the oven for about half an hour at the preheated temperature.
  • You can freeze this ensemble for as long as 2 days before baking it.
  • Once the cheese melts and the surface becomes bubbly, remove the lasagna from oven and allow to cool for 5 minutes.
  • Slice and serve.
