- ¼ tsp pure peppermint oil
- Food colouring
Cooking instructions for Buttermint Candies:
- Place the butter in a mixing bowl and empty the cups of sugar into it.
- Whisk them together, using an electric mixer set at medium-high speed, for about 10 minutes or until the mixture smooth out and turns deliciously creamy.
- Add a splash of peppermint oil, followed by the milk and continue to whisk the mixture at medium speed until they blend together to form a uniform mixture.
- Dust a chopping board lightly with icing sugar and place the dough on it.
- Add a couple of drops of food coloring into the dough and knead the dough until it is completely incorporated within it.
- Shape the dough into a ball and set aside.
- Dust more icing sugar on the chopping board and split the dough into 4 portions.
- Wrap 3 of them loosely with a plastic sheet and dust the other portion with some icing sugar.
- Flatten it out into a ½’’ wide rectangular log and slice it into ½’’ chunks, using a sharp knife.
- Process rest of the dough in a similar fashion and toss the candies into a large bowl.
- Set the candies aside overnight, uncovered, at room temperature to let them dry.
- Place the candies between sheets of parchment paper, and seal them in an airtight container to store in a dark place for as long as a couple of weeks.
- Tuck them in to treat your sweet tooth and have fun!
