How to Cook Onion Jam

Ingredients needed to make Onion Jam:
- 6-8 large onions
- 2 fresh thyme sprigs
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- ½ tsp salt
- Toasted French bread slices, to serve
Cooking instructions for Onion Jam:
- Slice the onions into equal halves and peel their skin off before chopping them into fine slices.
- Drizzle the olive oil into a large, heavy-based Dutch oven and heat it over moderate flame until it starts shimmering.
- Throw in the sliced onions as well as the thyme sprigs and stir them well together until properly mixed.
- Sprinkle a dash of salt over them and sauté gently over slow flame, while stirring at times, until the onions turn limp completely and begins to brown.
- Scratch out the browned, dried juices from the base of the pan and stir it into the mixture.
- Continue to cook for about 40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the onions turn dark brown in colour and turns mushy.
- Remove from heat and set aside until it cools down completely to room temperature.
- Spread the onion jam on top of toasted bread slices and serve right away.
