Cooking instructions for Sushi:
- Add the rice to a stockpot and empty a couple of cups of water over it.
- Cook the rice according to the package instructions and bring it to a boil.
- Reduce to a simmer and continue to cook for another 20 minutes.
- While the rice cooks, heat olive oil in a pan and pour the rice vinegar into it.
- Add the sugar and stir the mixture continuously until it dissolves; remove from heat and cool it completely.
- Meanwhile, when the rice is cooked ,drain and spread it across a flat plate.
- Cool the rice completely while fanning, which is said to give it a glossier look and drizzle the vinegar syrup over it.
- Toss well with wet hands to mixand set aside for a while.
- Spread a sushi mat across your kitchen’s working counter and place a nori sheet across it.
- Place a portion of the rice on top and spread it into a single layer with wet hands to prevent it from sticking to your hands.
- Arrange the salmon strips longitudinally across the middle of the rice layer.
- Place cream cheese by the side of the salmon and top the latter with avocado and cucumber strips.
- Press the filling a little and roll the nori sheet into a long cylinder, using the sushi mat to do so while pressing the ingredients inside.
- Unroll and do away with the mat.
- Dip a sharp knife into water and slice the sushi roll with it into smaller rounds.
- Arrange the sushi rolls on a serving plate and top each of them with a tsp of roe.
- Make another batch of sushi similarly, this time replacing salmon with ahi tuna and arrange them on a separate serving plate.
- Serve the sushi alongside wasabi sauce or enjoy with your favorite wine.
