How to Cook Caramel French Toast

Ingredients needed to make Caramel French Toast:
For the French toast:
- 4 white bread slices
- ½ cup milk
- 3 eggs
- ¼ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp pure vanilla extract
For the caramel sauce:
- ¼ cup butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 tbsp corn syrup
For serving:
- Slivered almonds or chopped pecans
Cooking instructions for Caramel French Toast:
- Add a knob of butter into a saucepan and heat it over moderate heat until it melts.
- Stir in the brown sugar, along with a splash of the corn syrup and bring the mixture to a boil.
- Continue to boil for a couple of minutes, while stirring constantly and turn off the heat; set aside to cool.
- Grease an 8’’ square pan with butter and drizzle the sauce across its base.
- Top it up with the slivered almonds or chopped pecans and place the bread slices on it, side by side.
- Crack the eggs in a separate bowl and whisk them all together along with milk and a splash of vanilla, until blend thoroughly into a smooth, uniform mixture.
- Drizzle it all over the bread slices and wrap the surface of the pan with a cling film.
- Leave it in the fridge for at least 6 hours or overnight if possible.
- Remove from the fridge and set aside until it reaches room temperature again.
- Meanwhile warm up your oven to 350 degrees F.
- Bake the bread for about 15-20 minutes, uncovered, until they are baked through and a skewer, inserted into the bread slices, comes out spotless.
- Turn off the oven and leave it inside for a couple of minutes to broil.
- Take it out of the oven and transfer a couple of French toast slice on each serving plate, with the caramelized surface facing up.
- Add a small splodge of softened butter on top and serve right away.
