How to Cook Seared Salmon With Wasabi Sauce

Ingredients needed to make Seared Salmon With Wasabi Sauce:

  • 4 skinned salmon fillets, each of about 6-8 oz
  • 4 heads baby bok choy, halved longitudinally
  • ½ cup light mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • ½ cup mirin
  • 3 tsp wasabi paste
  • ¼ cup fresh cilantro leaves
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 3 tbsp fresh lime juice
  • 1 ½’’ fresh ginger root, peeled and finely chopped
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Cooking instructions for Seared Salmon With Wasabi Sauce:

  • Pour the mayonnaise into a blender, along with a tbsp of water, ginger, wasabi paste, cilantro and a splash of lime juice.
  • Pulse them for about 3 minutes, into a smooth puree, adding a couple of tbsp water to thin the puree into a sauce.
  • Sprinkle a dash of salt and generous amount of black pepper and give it a good stir to season; set aside until required.
  • Drizzle oil in a large, non-stick frying pan and heat it over moderately high flame.
  • Rub some salt and black pepper all over either sides of the salmon and place it on the hot skillet with its flat surface facing up.
  • Cook the fish for about 3-4 minutes on one side until the flesh turns opaque and flip it over to sear the other side in a similar manner.
  • Place it on a plate and place an aluminum foil on top to cover and keep warm.
  • Wipe the grease out of the skillet with a paper towel and add empty half a cup of mirin into it.
  • Stir in the soy sauce to mix well and bring the mixture to a boil over moderately high heat.
  • Throw in the bok choy, along with a dash of seasonings and place a lid on top to cook for about 3-5 minutes or until they appear tender when the tip of sharp knife is inserted into it.
  • Lift the bok choy onto the side of the salmon, using tongs and discard the cooking liquid.
  • Smother each salmon with few spoonfuls of the wasabi sauce and serve right away.
