How to Cook Curry Puffs Indonesian Style

Makes: 30-40

Ingredients needed to make curry puffs Indonesian style:

  • 4-5 sheets frozen puff pastry
  • 1 cup ground beef
  • 1 cup assorted vegetables, diced
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 large onion, cut into small cubes
  • 3 large potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped
  • 1 ½ tsp fresh ginger, freshly grated
  • ½ cup fresh cilantro, finely chopped
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 3 tbsp curry powder
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tsp sugar

Cooking instructions for curry puffs Indonesian style:

  • Thaw the frozen puff pastry and set aside.
  • Drizzle small amount of vegetable oil in a wok and throw in the chopped garlic.
  • Saute them briefly until they turn golden brown and stir in the ginger as well as onion.
  • Stir fry the mixture for a minute and add the ground beef.
  • Cook the meat for a couple of minutes, while crumbling it with a spatula.
  • Stir in the potato cubes and continue to cook for another couple of minutes or until they soften slightly.
  • Sprinkle the curry powder over the above mixture, followed by salt, sugar as well as black pepper.
  • Empty a cup of water into it and simmer the curry for about 10-15 minutes over moderately low heat, while stirring frequently to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
  • In case, the simmering curry tends to dry up, feel free to add extra water as necessary.
  • Throw in the assorted veggies and sprinkle the chopped cilantro over it.
  • Stir them all together to distribute the ingredients evenly and cook further for 2-4 minutes or until the veggies are cooked through.
  • Turn off the heat and allow the filling for the pastry to cool.
  • Meanwhile, cut the pastry sheets into 4” x 4’’ pieces and spread them on your kitchen’s working counter.
  • Place a small portion of the beef-veggie filling along one side of a square sheet and brush little water along its edges.
  • Fold the other half of the pastry sheet over the filling to form a triangular puff and press the open ends together to seal.
  • Brush the beaten egg or the egg wash on the surface of each puff and arrange them on a pre-greased baking dish.
  • Bake them in the oven at 185 degree C, at the preheated temperature, for about 10 minutes or until they turn golden brown.
  • Serve them hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
