How to Make Jambalaya

Ingredients needed to cook Jambalaya:

  • 1 cup white rice, uncooked
  • 1 cup sausages, cooked and sliced
  • 1 cup ham, cooked and diced
  • 1 cup chicken, cooked and shredded
  • 1 cup large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cans (16 oz each) chopped tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 cup onion, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 cup green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 4 green onions, finely chopped
  • ½ tsp dried thyme
  • ¼ tsp chili powder
  • ½ tsp dried parsley
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 ½ tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp butter, softened
  • 1 cup chicken broth

Cooking instructions for Jambalaya:

Warm up your oven to 350 degrees F.
Add a splodge of butter into an oven-proof skillet and melt over moderate heat.
Throw in the bell pepper, onions as well as garlic into the skillet and saute until the first two veggies soften.
Stir in the ham, sausage slices as well as chicken and continue to saute for another 5 minutes.
Add the tomatoes, followed by the rice and pour in the chicken broth.
Sprinkle the parsley, thyme, chilli powder and rest of the seasoning over the simmering meat mixture and stir them well to mix.
Fasten a lid on top of the skillet and bake in the oven for about an hour or until the rice is cooked through. In case you substitute white rice with the brown variant, increase the cooking time by another 20 minutes.
Open the lid and check the doneness of the rice; if it appears too firm, cover again and continue to cook until it is just tender.
Once the rice is cooked, stir in the shrimp, adjust the seasonings and continue to bake for another 10 minutes.
Transfer the jambalaya into serving plates and top it up with chopped green onions.
Serve hot.
