  • 1 tbsp dried chili flakes
  • 2 tsp oregano
  • Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 4 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 8 tbsp sour cream, for serving

Cooking instructions for Chocolaty Beef Chili:

  • Drizzle a couple of tbsp oil in a heavy- bottomed pan and heat it over high flame.
  • Throw in the beef cubes and stir fry until they are browned on all sides; brown them in batches to avoid overcrowding.
  • Drain them out onto a paper-towel lined plate, using a slotted spoon and set aside.
  • Pour another tbsp of oil into the same pan and dump the ground beef into it.
  • Brown them for 3-4 minutes and drain them out, using the slotted spoon, into another plate.
  • Pour rest of the oil into the frying pan and throw in the celery, white as well as red onion and sauté for about 3-4 minutes, stirring at times, until the onions soften and turn lucid.
  • Drop the chitpotle chili into the pan, followed by dashes of chili powder, crushed chili flakes as well as oregano.
  • Stir them all together until mixed properly and continue to sauté for another couple of minutes, stirring often.
  • Dump the meat back to the pan and empty the cans of beans into it, followed by chopped tomatoes and sugar.
  • Pour in the beef stock, give it a good stir to mix well and bring it to a boil.
  • Reduce it to a simmer, fasten a tight-fitted lid on top and continue to cook likewise for a couple of hours.
  • To serve, stir in a dash of seasonings and drop in the chocolate chunks.
  • Whisk them together until the chocolate melts and fold in the chopped cilantro.
  • Turn off the heat and pour it into a large serving bowl.
  • Add a large splodge of sour cream on top and serve alongside steamed rice.
