  • ½ cup vegetable oil

  • ¾ cup butter
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 ½ cup cocoa powder, unsweetened
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Cooking instructions for chocolate cake with chocolate butter cream frosting:

  • Prepare your oven by preheating to 350 degrees F and grease two 9’’ cake pans with small amount of butter or oil.
  • Dust them lightly with flour and set aside. In case you plan to bake them in a single 9’’ x 13’’ baking pan, increase the baking time to 40 minutes.
  • Stir in salt, baking powder as well as baking soda into the flour and sift the mixture to a large mixing bowl.
  • Sprinkle the cocoa powder and stir them well together to mix.
  • Add sugar to the oil and whisk thoroughly until it dissolves.
  • Crack the eggs into the sugar-oil mixture and whisk them thoroughly into a pale-yellowish mixture.
  • Pour it into the flour mixture and fold them together into a uniform mixture, free of lumps.
  • Stir in the vanilla and process the batter with an electric mixer for about 3-5 minutes.
  • Empty a cup of boiling water into the batter and stir them well together; don’t panic if the batter looks runny.
  • Divide the batter into the greased pans and put them inside the oven, one at a time.
  • Bake the cake for about half an hour in the oven at the preheated temperature.
  • Insert the doneness of the cake by inserting a skewer into the centre of the cake; a clean skewer indicates perfectly cooked cake.
  • Make the other cake in a similar fashion and cool them on a wire rack for about 10 minutes.
  • Run a knife along the edges of the cake to free its edges from the pan and invert it onto a flat plate to de-mold it.
  • To make the frosting, whisk the butter until it turns fluffy and stir in the rest of the dry ingredients for the frosting.
  • Pour the milk and vanilla into the mixture and whisk them thoroughly into a semi-thick consistency which will be easier to spread.
  • Coat the sides and top of the cake with the frosting.
  • Slice and serve chilled.
