Serves: 6

Preparation time: 5 mins

Cooking time: 25 mins

Ingredients needed to make Beer Bratwursts:

  • 6 bratwurst sausages or any other link sausages
  • 6 oz dark beer
  • 2 tsp olive oil, divided
  • 1 large sweet onion, sliced into ¼’’ wide rounds

Cooking instructions for Beer Bratwursts:

  • Drizzle half of the olive oil in a large Dutch oven and heat it over moderate flame.
  • Toss the bratwurst sausages into the oven and sauté for several minutes, stirring often, until they turn deep golden brown in colour.
  • Drain them out into a plate and set aside.
  • Pour in rest of the oil into the Dutch oven and throw in the onion rings.
  • Toss them well until they are properly coated with the oil and continue to sauté for about 5-6 minutes, or until the onions soften and caramelize lightly; avoid burning or they will turn bitter.
  • Return the sausages to the pan and pour in a splash of beer.
  • Give them a nice stir to mix well and bring it to a simmer over moderate heat.
  • Continue to cook likewise for the next 15 minutes, flipping the sausages over midway through, until the cooking liquid reduces into the thick syrupy consistency.
  • Remove from heat and spoon them on buns.
  • Serve right away.
