How to Cook Steamed Tofu with Fish

Ingredients needed to make Steamed Tofu with Fish:

  • ½ lb salmon fillet
  • 14 oz soft tofu
  • 5 dried shiitake mushrooms
  • 1 green onion, julienned
  • 1 large carrot, cooked
  • 2 ginger root slices
  • 1 medium fresh bamboo shoot, cooked
  • 1 red chili pepper, julienned
  • ½ cups low-sodium chicken broth
  • Salt to taste

Soy sauce blend:

  • ¼ tsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • ¼ tsp ground black pepper

Cooking instructions for Steamed Tofu with Fish:

  • Slice the tofu into 10 pieces and chop the salmon, bamboo shoot as well as carrot into similar-sized chunks.
  • slice the mushrooms into equal halves and set aside.
  • Place a tofu chunk onto a plate and top it up with a slice of salmon.
  • Place a piece of bamboo shoot over it, which in turn is topped with a slice of carrot and mushroom.
  • Repeat the layers until all the ingredients are used up and set aside.
  • Stir in ½ tsp salt into the chicken broth until well combined and drizzle it all over the piled-up layers.
  • Place the plate carefully into a bamboo steamer and put the lid on.
  • Place the steamer into a large vessel with simmering water and steam it for about 10 minutes over high heat.
  • Meanwhile, drizzle a tbsp of oil into a wok and heat over medium flame until it shimmers.
  • Throw in the ginger, green onion as well as green chili and sauté for a minute.
  • Place all the ingredients of soy sauce mixture in a small bowl and stir them all together to mix well.
  • Pour it into the sautéed mixture and give it a nice stir to coat well.
  • Bring the sauce to a boil and remove from heat.
  • Drizzle it all over the steamed layers and serve right away.
