Serves: 6

Preparation time: 2 hours

Cooking time: 35 mins

Ingredients needed to make Stromboli:

  • ½ lb hot Italian sausage, casing peeled off and crumbled
  • ¼ lb salami, thinly sliced
  • ½ lb ham, sliced
  • 1 egg, whisked with 1 tbsp water to prepare the egg wash
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese, finely grated
  • 2 cups provolone cheese, grated
  • 1 cup yellow onion, sliced
  • 2 tbsp garlic, minced
  • ½ cup black olives, sliced
  • 2 tbsp jalapenos, stemmed, seeded and thinly sliced
  • ½ cup green bell peppers, thinly sliced
  • ½ cup red bell peppers, thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • Basic Pizza dough

Cooking instructions for stromboli:

  • Prepare your oven by preheating it to 375 degrees F and lightly oil a large baking sheet and keep it aside.
  • Throw in the sausages in a large skillet and brown them over moderately high heat or about 5 minutes or until the fat melts.
  • Drain the excess oil through slotted spoon to a plate lined with paper towels to soak away remaining grease.
  • Skim off 1 tbsp of the leftover fat in the skillet and throw in the onions, jalapenos, followed immediately by red and green bell peppers.
  • Saute them for about 4-5 minutes, stirring them often until they turn tender.
  • Stir in the garlic, sprinkle a dash of Italian seasoning and continue to saute for another minute, while stirring.
  • Remove the mixture from heat and allow it to cool.
  • Meanwhile, knead the basic pizza dough briefly until it is soft and split it into two halves.
  • Dust your working surface lightly with flour and place one half of the dough on it.
  • Roll it to a large 10’’ x 14’’ rectangular log and spoon half of the browned sausage mixture on it.
  • Spread it across the dough, leaving a border of an inch free.
  • Arrange slices of ham and pepperoni in overlapping layers on top of the sausage layer.
  • Top them up with mozarella and provolone cheese, one after another.
  • Brush the 1’’ border of the dough generously with egg wash using pastry brush.
  • Hold the long end of the rectangular dough firmly and roll it into a cylinder; press the open edges together to seal.
  • Place it on the greased baking sheet and make the 2nd stromboli similarly.</li%3
