Ingredients needed to make Apple Fried Pies:
- 4 McIntosh apples, peeled, cored and sliced
- 1 package (8 pieces) refrigerated flaky biscuit dough
- 1 tsp lemon juice
- ½ cup sugar
- 2 tbsp butter
- ½ tsp ground cinnamon
- Vegetable oil, for deep-frying
- Icing sugar, for dusting
Cooking instructions for Apple Fried Pies:
- To make the filling, add a knob of butter into a large skillet and melt it over moderate heat.
- Throw in the apple slices and sprinkle the sugar as well as a dash of ground cinnamon into it.
- Spoon in a splash of lemon juice and sauté over moderate heat for 15 minutes, or until the apples soften.
- Turn off the heat and set aside until they cool down completely.
- Place the biscuit dough pieces onto a working surface, dusted lightly with flour, and flatten out each of them into 8’’ wide disc with the help of a floured rolling pin.
- Place a couple of tbsp apple filling onto one side of a dough disc and smother its edges with few drops of water.
- Fold the other side over the filling and seal the open ends together by pressing them together.
- Press the tines of a fork along the sealed border to make crimped patters and set aside in a plate.
- Make rest of the apple filled pies in a similar fashion.
- Pour enough oil into a deep fryer so that it stands halfway along its sides and heat it to 350 degrees F.
- Lower the stuffed pies into the hot oil, one by one and deep-fry for 5-8 minutes or until they turn crisp and golden brown.
- Flip them over midway through frying to brown them on either side.
- Drain them out, using slotted spoon, onto absorbent paper-lined plates and dust with icing sugar to cover completely.
- Serve warm.
