Exclusionary diets have become incredibly popular throughout the US, with options ranging from plant-based diets that eschew meat and dairy products to gluten-free or low-carb options.

Whatever the diet or requirements your guests might have, it’s vital that you give them a tasty meal that suits their needs. Here are some flexible recipes that are easy to adapt to suit everyone.

A Humble Salad

Salads are a flexible meal, and make for a great option for anyone who’s hosting plenty of guests with unique dietary requirements. The base needs to be some form of vegetable, usually leafy greens like lettuce, spinach, arugula or kale. You can then add extra vegetables or even fruits, as well as proteins such as meat, nuts or cheese. Then, combine it all with a liquid dressing of some form, usually either an oil or dairy-based one. Dairy is an ingredient that many people are intolerant to, so you might want to choose an oil or vinegar-based dressing. If you’re concerned that you might be intolerant to dairy or any other food group, take a food sensitivity test. You’ll then be able to cut out the ingredient your body struggles to digest and enjoy better general health.

A Simple Stir-Fry

Vegetable stir fry. Healthy food.

The beauty of a stir-fry is that it’s essentially a cooked salad, with similar components, only the base is noodles instead of leafy greens. Leafy greens can still be added, along with other vegetables, meat or meat substitutes, and then a sauce. As stir-fries are an Asian dish, they usually involve soy sauce in the sauce, but for those with soy allergies, this can be replaced with fish sauce or another non-soy alternative. The noodles can be made from rice, egg or wheat, so there’s something for everyone. For vegans and vegetarians, you can use plant-based meat substitutes or just extra veggies. The result is a tasty dish everyone will love.

A BBQ Spread

For large gatherings of many people, each with their own dietary needs, why not consider doing a big BBQ? While meat plays a big part in a BBQ, it doesn’t have to be all there is. Vegetables can be thrown on the grill, as can tofu and other meat substitutes, plus there are the sides, meaning they’ll be plenty of plant-based BBQ dishes you can make for your guests. For those with allergies and restrictions such as not eating gluten, you can adjust the recipes for most sides and sauces. With various different dishes, you can ensure that everyone has something they can try at your next cookout.

Feeding guests with different preferences and dietary needs can be tough, but by choosing easy-to-adapt recipes like these, you can save yourself time and give everyone a delicious meal.
