How to Bake Honey Oat Bread
Makes: 9’’x 5’’ loaf
Preparation time: 2 hours
Cooking time: 50 mins:
Ingredients needed to make Honey Oat Bread:
- 3 cups all purpose flour
- 2 ¼ tsp instant dry yeast
- 1 cup milk
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 tsp salt
- ¼ cup lukewarm water
- ¼ cup + 2 tbsp honey
- 2 tbsp oats
Cooking instructions for Honey Oat Bread:
- Add the flour, yeast and oats into a large mixing bowl, attached to a stand mixer, and sprinkle a dash of salt over the mixture.
- Pour the milk in a small saucepan and heat it over low flame until it is just warm enough to melt the butter but don’t let it boil; remove from heat.
- Add a large knob of butter to it and whisk it into the warm milk until it melts.
- Empty the cup of honey into the buttered milk, along with the water and whisk them well together until well combined.
- Tip the contents of the saucepan into the dry mixture and fold them together using the mixer, fitted with a dough hook.
- Continue to process the mixture for about 10 minutes or until they gather together to form a soft, flexible, slightly sticky dough.
- Dust some flour in your hands as well as on your working counter and place the dough on it.
- Knead the dough with your hands until it softens further; add a tbsp of flour of it appears too moist even after kneading for 5 minutes or few splashes of water if it dries up.
- Grease a bowl with small amount of oil and transfer the dough into it.
- Set aside for an hour or until it rises to double its size.
- Return the dough back to the lightly floured surface and punch them to deflate it to original size.
- Roll the dough into 9×12 in rectangle and roll it back into a tight cylinder, tucking the ends in at the same time.
- Place the loaf in a loaf pan and wrap it up in a dry towel; let it rest for another hour or until it rises up again to double its size.
- Meanwhile, warm up your oven to 350 degrees and place another loaf pan at the lowest rack in the oven.
- Unwrap the dough and smother it with rest of the warmed honey.
- Top it up evenly with oats and place it into the oven.
- Fill the empty loaf pan with boiling water and bake the bread in the oven for about 40-50 minutes or until its internal temperature rises to 190 degrees and turns golden.
- Let it cool completely on a wire rack and carve out thick slices.
- Serve.
