Should I be a Vegetarian (or a Vegan)? Find out with our Handy Quiz!

Asking yourself “Should I be a vegetarian”, or “Should I be a vegan” is one that we’ve all pondered in the past.  Some people go veggie or vegan for dietary or ethical reasons.  Some do it for a while and realise that they simply can’t live without eating some kind of sweet, sweet animal.  Are you in a quandry as to whether to make the change?  Let us present some scenarios – your answers may determine whether you’ll survive as a vegetarian.

You see a cute, fluffy bunny.  You think:

  1. Awwwww.  The worst thing I could do to this is cuddle it.
  2. Cute bunny.  I must remember to pet it before I head out for that BBQ.
  3. Delicious.  What an excellent source of super-lean protein. I must remember to promptly slaughter, and eat it.

You’re asked your opinions on hunting.  You respond:

  1. Don’t disgust me by mentioning the H-word.  We shouldn’t kill animals, and nor should animals kill animals.  Why can’t we all sit down and hug this out.
  2. Don’t know really.  Not sure whether I could do it myself, as I think I prefer my meat mechanically formed into a nugget shape.
  3. Best thing ever, as long as I’m allowed my own weapons.

Someone asks you to cook their steak “Bloody”.  You tell them:

  1. Nothing.  You just spit in their direction.
  2. Ok, I’ll pop it on the pan for a bit.  That’s how you do it, right?
  3. That isn’t blood.  The red stuff you see is myoglobin, present in muscles.  Blood is found in arteries and veins.  You don’t want those in your steak, do you?  The phrase you’re searching for is “blue” or “rare”.

You’re asked why animal rights are important.  You respond:

  1. Because animals are more important than humans.  They’re also way smarter.
  2. Because I want the chicken to be happy before it’s dipped in breadcrumbs.
  3. Because animal’s welfare not only affects its life, but also the quality and taste of its meat (and there might be more of it).

You’re asked to cook for a vegetarian.  You carefully prepare:

  1. A 3-course meal, nutritionally-balanced with every bean imaginable included.
  2. Wait, can you microwave sweetcorn?
  3. Wafer thin ham.

So, if you mainly picked:

1: Go for it!  Sounds like you’ve got it figured out – you’ll make a fine vegetarian.

2: I guess you could try it, but we’re not holding out much hope.

3: You may slip into a coma.

Whatever you chose, good luck!  Make sure you:
