Serves: 2-3
Preparation time: 30 mins
Cooking time: 15 mins
Ingredients needed to make Tuna Kimbap:
- 5-6 cups cooked rice
- 1 avocado, peeled and stoned
- 3 strips pickled yellow radish
- Several seaweed sheets
- One canned tuna
- 3 crabmeat strip
- 1 tbsp vinegar
- 1 tbsp sugar, divided
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp freshly ground black pepper
- 1 tsp green onion, chopped
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds, toasted
- 3 tsp sesame oil
Cooking instructions for Tuna Kimbap:
- For the sauce, whisk half of the sugar and the entire salt into vinegar until they dissolve completely.
- Empty the cups of cooked rice into a large mixing bowl and drizzle the above sauce over it.
- Give it a good stir to coat the rice well with the sauce and set aside until required.
- To cook the tuna,
- Drain the tuna into a hot skillet and add a lashing of sesame oil in it.
- Toss to coat well with the oil and stir fry over moderate heat for a couple of minutes.
- Add a splash of soy sauce into it and give it a nice stir along with the minced garlic, rest of the sugar and a dash of black pepper.
- Continue to sauté the tuna flakes for another couple of minutes, stirring often and remove from heat.
- Drizzle rest of the sesame oil over it and toss the tuna along with the green onion and sesame seed until they distribute evenly throughout the mixture.
- To assemble, spread a seaweed sheet across a bamboo mat and spoon a portion of the rice onto it.
- Spread the rice across the sheet, pressing it at the same time, so that the rice sticks to it.
- Top it up with the cooked tuna and arrange a slice of avocado, a pickled yellow radish strip and piece of crabmeat, side by side.
- Roll the sheet tightly, with the help of the bamboo mat and unwrap it from the kimbap roll.
- Wipe a sharp knife with a damp cloth and cut it into slices, each about a couple of cms thick.
- Arrange them on a plate and use rest of the ingredients to make more kimbap rolls in a similar fashion.
- Serve with your favourite Asian dipping sauce.
