Ingredients needed to make Lumpia Rolls:

For the lumpia:

  • 15 lumpia wrappers or any spring roll wrappers
  • 1 lb lean ground pork
  • ½ lb green beans, julienned
  • 1 cup bean sprouts
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 carrots, julienned
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Salt to taste

For the sweet and sour sauce:

  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • ¼ cup + 2 tbsp water
  • ¼ cup white vinegar
  • ¼ cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tbsp sugar

Cooking instructions for Lumpia Rolls:

  • To make the sauce, pour the soy sauce, vinegar, ketchup as well as ½ cup water into a small pan and stir in a dash of salt and sugar.
  • Bring the mixture to a boil over moderate heat.
  • Dissolve the cornstarch in remaining water and whisk it into the sauce.
  • Bring the sauce to a simmer and cook for 5 minutes or until it thickens; set aside.
  • To make the lumpia, heat a lashing of vegetable oil in a skillet over moderate heat and dump the chopped onions into it.
  • Stir in the garlic and sauté for 5 minutes, stirring often, until they soften and turn fragrant.
  • Add the meat into it and continue to saute for 5-10 minutes or until brown evenly.
  • Throw in the veggies and continue to sauté for another 5-10 minutes, stirring at times, until they become tender and somewhat crisp up.
  • Turn off the heat and stir in a splash of soy sauce until well coated.
  • Allow the mixture to cool and sprinkle the bean sprouts into it.
  • Stir them all together, along with a dash of salt to mix well and set aside.
  • Separate the lumpia wrappers from each other and keep them covered with a moist kitcken towel to stop them from drying.
  • Place one wrapper on a flat working surface and place a couple of tbsp filling along one edge of the wrapper.
  • Roll it into a cylinder and tuck in the sides to prevent the filling from coming out.
  • Brush few drops of water along the open end and press it down to seal.
  • Make rest of the lumpia in a similar fashion and arrange them in a plate.
  • Pour vegetable oil into a deep-bottomed pan and heat to 350 degrees F.
  • Dip the lumpia rolls into the pan, few at a time and deep-fry each side for 3-5 minutes or until they turn golden brown.
  • Drain them out into piled-up layer of paper towels and arrange them on a large serving platter.
  • Serve warm alongside sweet and sour sauce.
