Spiced Hot Chocolate Recipe
Ingredients
- 4 oz bittersweet chocolate
- 4 oz milk chocolate
- 1 ¾ cup milk
- 1 tbsp honey
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 star anise
- 2 whole cloves
- ½’’ cinnamon stick
- 8 whole coriander seeds, crushed
- Splash of dark rum (optional)
- Orange peel, for garnishing
- Whipped cream, for serving
Instructions
- Pour milk into a saucepan and heat it over moderate heat, until it begins to boil.
- Remove from heat immediately and drop in the spices.
- Give it a nice stir, cover and let it steep for about 20 minutes or until the spices infuse their flavours into the milk.
- Pour the spiced milk in a strainer and discard the spices.
- Chop both the chocolates into tiny bits and add them to the strained milk.
- Add a splash of honey, along with the sugar and whisk them together until the sugar melts.
- Return the milk to the heat and cook, while stirring often, until the chocolate melts.
- Continue to stir the mixture until the mixture turns thick and smooth.
- Add a bout of rum into the serving cup; you can skip this stage completely if you want the drink to be alcohol-free.
- Top it up with the prepared hot chocolate and add a dollop of whipped cream on top.
- Place a twisted orange peel on the cream to garnish and serve right away.
